Before menopause, I had to learn how to manage life and beat the summer heat during menopause. Here are the three best tips I have learned to stay cool and comfortable.


Tip #1 - Pour It Up


Staying hydrated during the summer is your friend. Hot flashes can sometimes trigger sweating and will deplete your fluids. If you keep a water bottle with you at all times and drink throughout the day, you can keep your body hydrated. One of the easiest ways to remember to drink water is to buy a decal or one of the water bottles that have the time on the side. Infuse your water with fruit or try flavor enhancers.


Tip #2 - Comfortably Cool Clothes


Breathable, lightweight fabrics can help you maintain comfort, look cute and manage hot flashes. Cotton or linen are perfect for the summer months or for layering in general. They allow the air to circulate, reduce moisture but most of all keep you cool and hopefully dry. I lean towards tank tops and razor backs for the summer. If I have to get out and about, I can easily throw on a short sleeve shirt over a tank top. These types of outfits can help reduce the chance of overheating.
